Rebecca Hykin

Rebecca comes from a very diversified geographical background. She was born in Danbury, Connecticut, and at a young age moved to the Chicagoland area. Not only has she lived in Illinois twice, she has also lived in Ohio. She finished high school in Sterling, Colorado, where she was able to see severe weather roll into the Eastern Plains, as it developed more than 20 miles away.

Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Northern Colorado in December 2015. While at UNC, she was a weekly meteorologist for the school’s newscast, Bear News. There, she gained the experience to explain the weather to the viewing audience. During her time at school, she had the opportunity to utilize the Center for Severe Weather Research’s Doppler on Wheels (DOW) as a featured participant. On the DOW, she was able to research passing snow bands on the Northeastern Plains of Colorado. During the busy holiday season, Rebecca volunteered at 9News Denver (KUSA-TV) for the Travel and Weather Hotline to provide the public with accurate travel conditions.

Winter is Rebecca’s favorite season because she loves the snow and it’s also college basketball season. Rebecca roots for her two favorite teams, the University of Connecticut Huskies and the Iowa State University Cyclones. She is also a fan of New York teams for baseball, the Yankees, and football, the Giants.

Rebecca is very excited to be living on the Western Slope. Here, she is looking forward to enjoying the famous Palisade peaches and exploring all the sites the area has to offer. If you have any eye catching weather pictures or videos, Rebecca would love to feature them in her forecast; just email her at
