Authorities say Oscar Rodriguez fatally assaulted Morgan Dumas in November

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A Mesa County man is facing charges in the death of his girlfriend.

Officials at the Justice Center said a court hearing for Oscar Rodriguez, 24, of Grand Junction was held on Tuesday morning. Rodriguez is being charged with reckless manslaughter and second-degree assault.

Police responded to a home in the 2800 block of Hall Avenue on November 9 for reports of an unconscious woman.

Authorities said Morgan Dumas, 22, was taken to the hospital where she later died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head.

According to an arrest affidavit, Rodriguez told investigators he pushed Dumas to the ground twice and both times she was unconscious for several hours.

Rodriguez is scheduled to return to court on December 15.
