MESA COUNTY, Colo. - Three Los Angeles residents are currently behind bars in Mesa County, and one of them is 13 years old. The suspects were arrested after authorities with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force seized 25 pounds of methamphetamine from their vehicle during a traffic stop on I-70, and the 13 year old was driving the car.
The driver was identified as 13 year old Israel Arreola. The other two passengers were his cousins German Michel-Arreola, who is 22 years old, and Irene Michel-Arreola, who is 19 years old.
A Mesa County Sheriff deputy, who is also with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force, stopped the car on Tuesday morning near mile post 13 in Fruita.
The three occupants of the car now face drug charges of Distribution/Manufacturing/Possession with Intent. The driver is also facing charges of Failed to Drive in a Designated Lane and Driving without a Valid Driver's License.
Megan Terlecky, the public information officer for the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, said "goods travel through I-70 from across the country, and that's no different with drugs. And so, the Western Colorado Drug Task Force, they do a very good job of trying to track movement of drugs and make stops and seize it when they have an opportunity to do so."
Israel Arreola is being held at the Grand Mesa Youth Services Center. German Michel-Arreola and Irene Michel-Arreola are being held in the Mesa County Detention Facility.
