District 51 Has Chosen a New Superintendent

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - After going through 39 applications, then narrowing it down to four candidate, School District 51 has made a decision on who they're picking for their next school superintendent.

Ken Haptonstall who is the current superintendent of Garfield County School District 16, was selected during the D51 board meeting that took place on Thursday.

Haptonstall is a former principal in D51, and officials say the scope of this background in education is what separated him from the rest.

"He been a classroom teacher, a building administrator, he's been a district administrator, he has school board experience and he has experience of working with the board of education," said Tom Parrish, D51 board member.

Pending a background check, Haptonstall would replace current superintendent Steve Schultz, who is retiring at the end of June.
