GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - If you're planning on going out this weekend, you may want to think twice before driving under the influence.
Colorado State Patrol troopers will be conducting a DUI checkpoint here in the Grand Valley.
They say in Mesa County, the average DUI is well over double the legal limit, making us the highest in the state of Colorado.
"A few years ago, we had the unfortunate designation of being the drunkest county in the state. We're pretty close to that still. Some months we're averaging almost a .19, some as low as a .16 - but that's still double," said Dan Chermock, Public Information Officer with the Colorado State Patrol.
Aside from alcohol, CSP officials say marijuana use is also a key factor contributing to DUI's here in the Grand Valley.
They also want to remind you to stay safe and to think twice before getting behind the wheel.
