GOLDEN, Colo.- - Mesa County Deputy Derek Geer's name is added to the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial during a ceremony on Friday, May 5.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard presents flags during the Pledge of Allegiance and Star-Spangled Banner.
Deputy Derek Geer is honored, along with fellow fallen Colorado officers Corporal Nathaniel Carrigan and Trooper Cody Donahue. Many say this kind of recognition is important in remembering those who have passed in the line of duty. Mesa County Sheriff's Office Deputy Amanda Erkman says it "gives everybody a chance just to have a moment together with the whole state of Colorado, and honor the people who served before us and who gave the ultimate sacrifice."
A candle light vigil for all Colorado Law Enforcement officers who have passed will be held on May 13 at 7 P.M., also at the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial at Camp George West in Golden.
