GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- - A Mesa County Deputy District Attorney from the 21st Judicial District is awarded Prosecutor of the Year by the Colorado Welfare Fraud Council. George Holley is the recipient of this award, and he was nominated by the Mesa County Department of Human Services Investigator Matt Furphy.
The award recognizes an individual who has shown excellence in the prosecution of welfare fraud. Holley has been with the District Attorney's office for over 2 years, and has prosecuted Mesa County's first known welfare fraud jury trial, which resulted in 7 felony charges.
Holley says he enjoys having the chance to help residents of Mesa County. "I think that is the most rewarding, when you get to help somebody who feels victimized, and knows that you're listening to them," says Holley.
Holley says he appreciates all the hard work of the Mesa County Fraud Investigations Department on this case.
