GRAND JUNCTION, Colo-On a day synonymous with smoking, Mesa County Public Health is holding a smoke-out of their own.
The second Mesa County smoke-out quit date is April 20th.
Public health officials say it's a day for the community to quit smoking tobacco all together.
The idea comes from The Great American smoke-out, which is in November.
Mesa County Public Health thought having one day dedicated to quitting tobacco wasn't enough.
They're now holding four smoke-out quit days throughout the year, today being the second.
Health officials say dedicating a day to quitting tobacco unites those who decide to quit, because together they can support each other through the difficulties of quitting.
"I think that's a huge part of it for people is that solidarity, because quitting's hard, " says Katie Goddeyne of Mesa County Public Health.
"If it were easy, everybody would quit but, it's tough. It's just a great way for people to know that they're not alone in it. There's got to be at least one other person struggling with this," adds Goddeyne.
