GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Those with the Grand Junction Police Department want to make sure you aren't being targeted by a Grinch this holiday season. By a Grinch, they mean a criminal.
They're reminding you that thieves don't take breaks, so just like every day of the year -- it's important to stay cautious.
With the amount of online shopping and package deliveries we can expect, authorities say there is a chance we may experience more crime.
Those with the police department say they see more reports during the holiday season of people not receiving packages due to theft.
They mention it's important to be aware of your environment and to make arrangements if you plan on having an order delivered.
"The holidays are a time of giving and a time of joy for so many of us. Being careful and being aware of your surroundings, protecting your finances, and protecting yourself lends to a happier holiday season for everybody," said Heidi Davidson with the Grand Junction Police Department.
Some arrangements you can make to avoid having your items stolen are having them delivered to your work, having a neighbor watch out for a package, or even including special delivery instructions, such as requiring a signature.
If you have questions about how you can make your property safer, those with the GJPD say to give them a call at 549-5331.
