GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Students and faculty at Colorado Mesa University are working to help fight hunger here in the Grand Valley.
On Monday, Sodexo Dining Services hosted a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive at the University Center Lobby. They partnered with student volunteers from various Greek organizations to help prepare 2,000 sandwiches.
The food was then donated to HomewardBound of the Grand Valley, Catholic Outreach, and The House.
"Why not make our presence felt in the community as well as help out. We all enjoy doing our community service and helping to better the community as well," said Lane Seger with Kappa Sigma Fraternity at CMU.
"Every year when we drop them off, the groups are super excited to see what we've donated for them. We've received letters after the fact saying we really appreciate everything you did for us," said Kevin Simpers, Marketing Coordinator at Sodexo Dining Services.
Sodexo has hosted the event all across the nation for several years, however, this is their first Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive at CMU.
Simpers said the event was an opportunity to bring the community together, all while giving back to those in need.
