GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - This Thanksgiving, many of us will spend time with family enjoying some home cooked turkey.
However, for some, this is not the same reality.
In order to bring the holiday spirit to the less fortunate, Sodexo Dining Services is cooking more than 100 turkeys, 60 pounds of gravy, and hundreds of pounds of dressing for the Salvation Army.
Sodexo has been doing this for 21 years. This is the second year that the Colorado Mesa University Women's Basketball Team will be helping with the event.
Those with Sodexo said the most rewarding part of putting together the dinner, is simply giving back to the community.
"I know they feed a lot of people who don't have family in town or have an opportunity to have a Thanksgiving," said Travis Venema, Chef Manager with Sodexo.
"As a community having one big group that's organized and coming together not only makes a community grow, but also shows that people care, said Daniella Turner, Freshman on the CMU Women's Basketball Team.
They began preparations for the event about a week ago. Those with the CMU Women's Basketball Team began helping out on Friday, and will continue to help until Wednesday.
All in all, they hope to feed more than 1,400 people in our community.
