Weekend Shooting Now Investigated as Homicide

Coroner says Travis Carothers killed by gunshot wounds to chest and abdomen

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A weekend shooting incident in a Mesa County neighborhood is now being investigated as a homicide.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mesa County sheriff’s deputies and Grand Junction police officers responded to reports of gunfire near the 2900 block of View Drive.

Authorities arrived to find Travis Carothers, 36, of Grand Junction lying in a driveway suffering from gunshot wounds.

Carothers was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office say they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the general public.

Several witnesses have spoken to law enforcement officers but a suspect has yet to be named in the incident.  The sheriff’s office is looking for anyone with additional information.
