CMU Baseball Hits the Road for NCAA Regionals

For the first time in four years the Colorado Mesa baseball team is packing its bags for the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Mavs hit the road to San Angelo, Texas where one seed Angelo State earned this year's hosting rights.  Mesa landed a two seed after three consecutive seasons as regional host.  This year, the Mavs look to exercise last season's demons going two and out at Suplizio Field despite being the top-seed.  While the Mavs may not be able to avenge last season on their home field, a change of scenery might not be so bad.

"I think going on the road may relieve a little bit of pressure if there is any," said Head Coach Chris Hanks.  "We get the guys together, we know where they are, they're in the hotel.  We only have to worry about the game time and where we eat.  When you're at home there are a lot more distractions, so to put a positive spin on it, we've hosted the regional the previous three years so maybe it's time to go on the road."

The Mavs take on St. Edward's in the first round.  The Hilltoppers are coming in hot, winning eight straight including the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship.  The Mavs are also coming off their fourth consecutive RMAC tournament title.  The game starts at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
