CMU Basketball: Mavs Split with Orediggers

The Colorado Mesa basketball teams split Friday night's doubleheader against the Colorado Mines Orediggers.

The CMU women's basketball team picked up its sixth league win in the 63-46 win over Mines. The Mavericks led 15-13 after the first quarter and never lost the lead. Four Mavericks scored in double digits while Jaylyn Duran led the team with 15. Karina Brandon posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The CMU men fell short of an upset against No. 22 Colorado Mines in a 82-72 loss.  The Mavericks led for much of the first half with their largest lead of eight points almost mid way through despite trailing 38-35 at the half.  However, in the second half, Mines shot almost 55 percent from the field and outscored the Mavs 44-27.

The men and women host Colorado Christian Saturday night.  The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men follow at 7:30 p.m.
