GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The CMU men's soccer team tasted both victory and defeat in 2016, So the Mavs have plenty of motivation coming into the 2017 season.
CMU swept the RMAC regular season and tournament titles last year, but the trip to the NCAA tournament came to an abrupt end when the Mavs fell 1-0 to Midwestern State in the first round. That's the kind of loss that lingers, even into the next season, but it's what the Mavs can take from the loss that matters now.
"I never stop thinking about it," said junior midfielder Moshe Perez. "It was a tough loss, but at the same time, you can't really say it was good for you, but it was good for you because I hope we learn from it and we will move on and progress.
"We got the taste of what victory felt like and everybody that's coming back just wants more of that," said junior goalkeeper Briley Guarneri. "We want to win an RMAC and we want to advance farther in the NCAA tournament and we want to have a better year than we had last year."
Mesa opens up the season on September 1 as they host regional opponent Lubbock Christian at Walker field.
