Basketball fans in the Grand Valley may notice a familiar face donning the maroon and gold this season.
Grand Junction Tigers standout Sydni Brandon is back in Grand Junction after spending two seasons in Durango with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. The hometown hoopster averages 16 minutes a game and four rebounds as a guard.
It seems Brandon is finding a nice role with the Mavericks this season as Head Coach Taylor Wagner said she provides a great spark off the bench.
"She brings a constant energy," said Wagner. "That's the one thing I love about her. She comes in, she can guard for us, she'll rebound. She does a great job finding girls in transition, and she passes well. It's one of those things where she comes in and we know we're going to get a different look."
"I love it so much, said Brandon about being a Maverick. "I love the team, I love the atmosphere. I love all the fans that have been like 'we've been watching you since high school.' It's just a much better fit for me than Fort Lewis was."
