Distel to Miss State Championships

The best of the best in high school wrestling hit the mat Thursday for the State Championships, but unfortunately an injury has forced a re-draw in the 4A 285 pound bracket.

Montrose Indians senior Sam Distel was injured earlier this week and will now have to sit out the tournament. He was the top seed in his 285 weight class. His absence has created an opportunity for another Western Slope wrestler to compete in the championships.

Palisade sophomore Ricardo Valenzuela will head to the Pepsi Center. He was the fifth place finisher in the 4A Region 4 bracket.

The high school wrestling state championships are this Thursday through Saturday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
