Fruita Monument, Palisade earn preseason ranking

CHSAA Releases Football Rankings

DENVER, Colo. - CHSAA released its preseason football rankings this week and a few Western Slope teams earned a spot on the list.

The Fruita Monument Wildcats made their way into the rankings at number seven in the 4A poll. After a slow start last season the Wildcats dominated conference play to make the playoffs. They lost in the second round to the fourth ranked Chatfield Chargers and finished 7-5 on the season.

In 3A, the Palisade Bulldogs saw an earlier than anticipated exit in 2016, they lost in the quarterfinals to Mead, but coming into the 2017 season they're ranked eighth in the state.

Delta returns for its second season in the 2A classification, they're ranked fourth this year after a deep playoff run in 2016.  They were knocked out by Kent Denver in the semis who sits a the top of the rankings.

In 1A, Western Slope powerhouses Meeker and Paonia sit in the top four in the state while Cedaredge earned a spot at number nine.
