In a game with league standing implications, the Central Warriors boys' basketball team defeated the Montrose Indians 58 to 40. The Warriors girls' team lost to the Indians 44 to 40.
Coming into tonight, the Warrior boys were second in the Southwestern League at 4-2, trailing Grand Junction who was 4-0. Montrose had yet to win a league game this season. The Warriors did not take the Indians lightly and came away with a 58 to 40 win.
Late in the first quarter, Central senior guard Kyle Blair hit a three-pointer to record his 1,000th career point. His teammates swarmed him and the student section held up signs in celebration.
For the girls, Central's loss brought them to 11-11 overall on the season and 2-5 in the league. Montrose is now 13-8 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Next for the Warriors, the boys and girls travel to Grand Junction on February 17th. Montrose boys and girls are at Durango on the 17th.
