GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Colorado Mesa football doesn't lose often and that's a good thing because even as little as two losses on a season could be the difference between sitting at home in late November or earning a spot on the bracket for the NCAA Tournament.
With the loss to CSU-Pueblo two week ago, there isn't much wiggle room for the Mavericks, and they know that. That's why the win over Black Hills State this Saturday was more than just another win for CMU. Mesa dominated all three phases of the game early on, and despite a couple lapses, the Mavs answered back to win 49-37.
"We don't really plan on losing, so it was huge to have a bounce back win," said senior wide receiver Virnel Moon. "It got us our confidence back and some swagger we needed to have back going into Dixie."
"We always want to bounce back, said senior linebacker Carlos Aviles. "Every day we plan to get better, every week we plan to get better. With the coaches, they're always telling us 'leave no doubt, we're the best team in the RMAC.'"
The Mavericks continue the season as they travel to Dixie State this Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
