The Battle at Brownson is always well worth the price of admission. Last year's came down to Clayton Voytilla's walk-off takedown against Western State.
The Mountaineers, however, don't have the pleasure of the returning to Grand Junction for this year's battle, instead the Mavericks welcome nationally ranked CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves don't have fond memories of this dual though. Two year's ago Mesa handed them a 40-6 loss. The Thunderwovles boast a couple of ranked wrestlers this time around, but that only makes the stakes that much higher.
"A couple years ago they came in here and we took it to them pretty good," said Head Coach Chuck Pipher. "I'm sure they want a little revenge... It's going to be a big test for our team when you look at our line up and see as many freshman and sophomores as we have in there. It's going to be pretty exciting. These guys will get a taste of it first hand."
"They definitely have some tough kids,"said senior Bruno Nicoletti but we're going to have the energy of the crowd behind us and stuff, so I'm pretty excited to see what happens... you know the school always has a good turnout. It's almost an unreal experience. Not a lot of people get to wrestle in an environment like that, so it definitely pumps me up."
The dual starts at 6 p.m. on January 19.
