Despite another exit in the NCAA South Central Regional tournament, the CMU Mavericks Softball team had a milestone year in 2017.
A walk-off win in the RMAC Tournament secured the Mavericks first ever RMAC Tournament Title before heading to Texas in the regional tournament.
This season, the Mavericks earned the eighth spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll, the highest ranking ever during Ben Garcia's four year as head coach. The Mavericks were the only RMAC team to make the top 25 poll.
Defending national champ Minnesota State sits a top the totem poll and Angelo State, last year's South Central region champ and the team that ended Mesa's season, is number two.
The Maverickss don't have to wait much longer to get a shot at Angelo State in 2018. They take on the Rambelles in their second game of the season. First pitch of the 2018 season is on February 2 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico against Western New Mexico University.
