Tawater Named Freshman of the Year

Coming off an RMAC Championship, Colorado Mesa's Payton Tawater has been named the RMAC Freshman Wrestler of the Year.

The RMAC Champion of the 157 weight class, Tawater finished his freshman regular season with a 28-7 record. He won his bracket at the RMAC Championships to earn First Team All-RMAC. He's ranked third in his weight class in the upcoming NCAA Division II Super Region Four taking place this weekend.

In addition to Tawater, Palisade grad Daniel Salazar also finished first in his 141 weight class to win the RMAC Championship and was named to the All-RMAC First Team. In the 184 weight class, Austin Gaun finished second in the RMAC Championship, earning Second Team All-RMAC.
