The feeling of a Southwestern League rivalry game was alive and well Tuesday night at Grand Junction High School as the Tigers took down the Fruita Monument Wildcats in double overtime, 72-68, to maintain sole possession of first place in the league.
The Fruita Monument Wildcats opened the game with a 6-0 run, but it wasn't too long after, the Tigers put up nine unanswered points to take the lead. That lead would shift back and forth numerous times throughout the first quarter, with the Wildcats up by seven at one point in the first half.
With just over a minute left the in game, the Wildcats surrendered a four point lead to send the game into overtime at 56-56. It would take two of those overtime periods though to seal the deal at Grand Junction High School. With the twin, The Tigers swept the season series against the Wildcats.
