After finishing a two-year digital design program in nine months, Al got his start in television working at WMBB, the Nexstar affiliated station in Panama City, Florida. During his time in Florida, Al filled many different positions, including Production Assistant, Live Truck Operator, Promotions Producer, and Marketing Director.
Upon his wife’s completion of her Master’s Degree, Al and his family relocated from the Panama City area to Hickory, North Carolina. It was at that point that Al stepped away from his career in the broadcast industry to take on what he calls, “the hardest job” he’s ever experienced: being a stay-at-home dad to his three kids. He did find time while in North Carolina to become an accomplished photographer and successful small business owner.
In the summer of 2019, Al’s wife was offered a job in the Grand Valley. Without ever visiting Grand Junction and the surrounding area, they decided that a new adventure was what the family needed. The Mauldings moved to the Western Slope in August of 2019.
It was around the one-year mark of living in the Grand Junction area that Al decided he was ready to re-join the workforce. Being familiar with Nexstar Broadcasting and the structure of their corporation, Al reached out to KREX and began working as a Production Assistant in March of 2021. It didn’t take long for the passion for news to be reignited and by October of 2021, he joined the news division as the Digital Lead of WesternSlopeNow.com.
When Al is not working, you can find him spending time with his wife and three kids or chasing after the elusive 27-strikeout game on MLB The Show. Give him a follow on his official Twitter account, @MrMaulding!
