
Derwin Worrell joined KREX on December 6, 2021 as a Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter.
Derwin was born and raised in Queens, New York. He attended Virginia State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Sports Communication. While there he became one of the voices of WVST Sports radio. He did play-by-play and color commentary for the university’s sports teams.
In 2009, Derwin worked at NY1 News, as a Freelance News Assistant where he learned how to shoot and he covered just about everything that you can imagine in New York City. One of Derwin’s highlights was covering the 75th Heisman Trophy ceremony. That same year he also worked at News 12, as a Sports Videographer/Reporter where he focused on the local sports scene. He would work for the News 12 Networks for 4 years. In 2015, he became a Sports Anchor/Reporter at the Herald-Mail Media in Hagerstown, Maryland. While there he covered the local sports scene and also got to cover President Barack Obama when he came to speak at a Fallen Fire Fighters ceremony.
Derwin loves talking and watching sports, especially when it comes to the NFL. He’s covered the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL games. His goal is to eventually cover the NFL for an all-sports network.
