COLORADO– Ruben Valdez, the first Hispanic speaker of the Colorado House died on Tuesday.
A Colorado Native, Valdez was a democratic state representative from 1971 to 1978, serving as house speaker from 1975 to 1976.
Valdez served in the transportation department under the Carter Administration and also worked in Colorado’s Department of Social Services and Department of Labor and Employment.
He is survived by three children and seven grandchildren.
Valdez was 82.
