Colorado creates economic council to address virus fallout

Colorado News

DENVER (AP) — In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Colorado’s governor has announced an executive order to expedite state unemployment claims, defer state personal and business income tax payments to July 1, allow consumers to defer loan payments without penalty days and prevent mortgage foreclosures.

Gov. Jared Polis also says the state is creating an emergency economic council to take short- and long-term steps to weather fallout from the crisis and promote eventual economic recovery. Polis insists his administration is ramping up efforts to ensure Colorado has the health infrastructure to confront the crisis. He wants to avoid what he calls a catastrophic breach of that capacity in coming weeks.
