Judge denies gun seizure of Colorado officer’s guns

Colorado News

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A judge has denied a petition to seize the guns of a police officer involved in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old which was sought by the teen’s mother under Colorado’s new red flag law.

Susan Holmes’s declined to testify during Thursday’s court hearing on her request to disarm Colorado State University police Officer Phillip Morris. The law only allows family or household members or law enforcement to seek the temporary removal of firearms from someone deemed a threat to themselves or others.

Colorado State Attorney General Phil Weiser says the denial shows there are protections in the law to prevent it from being abused.
