LOVELAND, Colo. (Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald) — Authorities in northern Colorado say a mountain lion attacked a person and bit a sheriff’s deputy who was responding to help.

Officials say both victims were taken to the hospital and and are expected to recover after the attack Wednesday in a canyon north of Denver that’s popular with anglers and kayakers. Wildlife officials say they shot and killed the mountain lion.

Witnesses told the Loveland Reporter-Herald that uniformed officers chased the mountain lion and they saw it bite the deputy on the shoulder. Wildlife officials say mountain lion attacks on people are rare.
