MESA AND GARFIELD COUNTIES– This fall, the Upper Colorado River Fire and Aviation Unit will be carrying out a number of prescribed burns, including some in Mesa and Garfield counties.
In the coming weeks, burns will be held on White River National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands in Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, and Pitkin counties, weather permitting.
During and after these burns, residents might see smoke or haze, but these fires are planned and are beneficial for wildlife and plant growth.
Possible locations of these burns are:
- June Creek in Garfield County, up to 727 acres, 11 miles south of Silt.
- Roan Plateau, up to 846 acres, 7 miles northwest of Rifle.
- Farmer’s Canyon in Mesa County, up to 70 acres, 18 miles south of Grand Junction.
- West Divide, up to 500 acres, 18 miles south of New Castle and west of Carbondale.
