MONTROSE, DELTA COUNTY, Colo. — KREX 5 is your local election headquarters, and we now have the unofficial results from the Montrose and Delta County elections Tuesday.
The main question for Montrose voters is a proposed sales tax increase for public safety.
Question 2a increases the sales tax to .5-8% until 2050, and then to .4-4% thereafter. Montrose police is looking to hire and train new staff and is also in need of new equipment and capital expenses.
Currently, with just over 50% of the vote, ballot question 2A is looking like it will pass.
If that’s the case, the annual county taxes will be increased by 3.8 million to fund public safety personnel and resources.
Delta county is also asking voters to approve a sales tax increase for public safety improvements.
The proposed rate increase would be 1% for an estimated annual increase of $2.9 million.
Currently, with 50% of the vote, ballot question 1A appears to be rejected by voters.
