GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Break out the kilts and Haggis: it’s time for the return of the Glenfinnan Highlanders’ Grand Valley Highland Games! The Mesa County Fairgrounds will be alive with the sounds of bagpipes as everyone is invited to experience jousting, dancing, caber tossing, and more!
The event will take place Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prior to the games, the Glenfinnan Highlanders will partner with the Grand Junction Rotary Club for a golf tournament taking place at the Bookcliff Country Club and a Ceilidh (a traditional Scottish social gathering) on May 13 at the Mesa Theater.
Athletic competitions including the caber toss, hay bale toss and more will be taking place. Other activities will include bagpiping – sanctioned individual and pipe band competitions, and massed bands; dancing – Scottish Highland and Irish competitions and performances; and clan booths with information on family heritage.
