CDOT launching Reasons to Buckle Up Campaign

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – To date in 2021, there have been 260 deaths on Colorado roadways, of those more than half were unbuckled. You have heard it before, click it or ticket. During the recent statewide enforcement period 2,123 drivers across Colorado were cited for not buckling up.

These numbers demonstrate the need for continued awareness of seat belt safety. This year CDOT is unavailing a new initiative where they are sharing the many reasons Coloradan’s choose to buckle up.
“This is really more of a light hearted campaign to share some of the reasons why people buckle up in Colorado. we are always trying to figure out new ways to change peoples behavior when it comes to buckling up,” Sam Cole, CDOT Communications Manager said.

According to CDOT, 14% of people in Colorado don’t buckle up. Driving fatality rates spike in the summer, but why add a new seat belt initiative?

“Well we are always trying to find new angles to reach people with this seatbelt safety message and over the years we have come across hundreds of reasons why people buckle up,” Cole said.

As we head into the July 4th holiday weekend, c-d-o-t is reminding Colorado drivers to buckle up. Head to our Facebook page to share your reason why you buckle up.
