GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — In honor of outgoing Superintendent Dr. Diana Sirko, District 51 will be holding a reception on Tuesday, May 17 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Harry Butler Board Room.
Dr. Sirko has been with D51 for the past four years, serving as Superintendent after having been the Interim Superintendent from Fall 2018 until the end of the 2018-19 school year. Including her time with D51, Sirko has amassed 47 years in Colorado as an educator.
She began her career as a Middle School Science Teacher in Gunnison, Colorado, in the fall of 1975 after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado. She worked as a teacher at all three levels (elementary, middle, and high schools) over the next 13 years before taking her first administrator job when she became the Supervisor for Staff Development for District 11 in Colorado Springs.
Dr. Sirko received her PhD in Educational Leadership and Innovation from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1999 before serving as Superintendent in both the Roaring Fork School District and Aspen School District, where she was a 2006 nominee for Colorado Superintendent of the Year and a 20008 Colbert Cushing Award Winner for her outstanding contribution to education.
