Roice-Hurst Humane Society Hosts Monthly Vaccine Clinic for Veterans’ Pets in Conjunction with the VA Hospital and Western Region One Source

Local Events

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — As part of its mission to promote the vital bonds between pets and their people in our community, Roice-Hurst Humane Society is offering free pet vaccines and discounted vaccines and services for all veterans who enroll in VA benefits or speak with the VA Outreach Coordinator about benefits on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 10am-2pm in the Western Region One Source parking lot (located at 482 28 Road in Grand Junction).

To receive free vaccines, veterans must enroll in VA benefits (or for veterans already enrolled, they must speak with the VA Outreach Coordinator) at the Western Region One Source. Veterans who do not enroll in VA benefits or speak with the VA Outreach Coordinator may still receive vaccines at highly discounted prices. See attached flyer for pricing.

Core vaccines and physical examinations for veterans are subsidized by a grant from the Trutta Fund through the Western Colorado Community Foundation. Thanks to the Trutta funding, Roice-Hurst will host monthly vaccine clinics for dogs and cats of veterans in conjunction with human health services every month through 2021.

“These clinics are designed to improve both veterans’ and pet health by incentivizing veterans to access health services for themselves in exchange for free pet services,” Anna Stout, CEO of Roice-Hurst, said. “We know people will often put their pets’ needs above their own, and with the uncertain economic and health situation in our community, we do not want veterans to find themselves in that position.”

Roice-Hurst Humane Society is a nonprofit shelter and adoption center that provides housing, medical treatment, and care for dogs and cats until their adoption, as well as provides resources for pet owners, such as animal behavior counseling, free and low-cost food and supplies, and low-cost vaccination services to the community. Roice-Hurst does not euthanize any healthy, adoptable animals and works diligently to match animals to their forever homes, however long that may take.
