MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Theresa Fuller at Northside Elementary has been teaching for more than 20 years and she still loves it, but she didn’t know early on that she would become a teacher. It was only after working at a summer camp that she realized teaching was something she could do.

She’s taught kindergarten through 6th grade and says she doesn’t really have a favorite, but there is one thing she really loves about teaching. She said, “I love the lightbulb effect. It’s just wonderful to see, like I said the lightbulb moment come on. There was a little girl earlier and she was adding and subtracting and she says ‘I got it!’ It’s the enthusiasm, and the feeling of validation now at the end of the year that I did my job and that I tried to do my job the best I could.”

Mrs. Fuller has a philosophy about being better than the day before, and it’s obvious that her outgoing personality makes her a truly great teacher. The students really thrive off her energy. When asked what motivates her everyday she laughed and said, “Mostly coffee. No, it’s the children. I know I have that responsibility when I walk through that door to be a good influence on their lives, and I don’t want to let them down.”

Thank you Mrs. Fuller for your dedication as a teacher, for getting kids excited about learning, and congratulations for winning a Golden Apple Award.
