GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – Three friends with a common interest in rock climbing have dedicated their time to building a community space to form life-long friendships.
Cody Abshear, Mike Kimmel, and professional climber Ben Rueck will be opening their new climbing gym, Grip Bouldering, in Grand Junction during the winter of 2021. Grip Bouldering will be a bouldering gym, meaning the walls are shorter and no ropes are used.
“I felt like it was something we could give back to the community,” said Cody Abshear. “I felt like it was a natural progression for coaching, climbing, and being involved.”
While being the home of a competition climbing team, the gym will also be a great place for beginners to learn how to climb.
“It is a safe way to enter into something considered dangerous. We are able to offer classes on how to climb outside safely, how to climb efficiently, and more importantly, how to have a good time,” said Ben Rueck.
