First Grand Valley snowfall caused multiple morning accidents, highway closures

Orange Barrel Alerts

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The first snow in the Grand Valley leads to a busy morning for first responders with multiple accidents between Palisade and De Beque.

Shortly before 5 am, there were unconfirmed reports of a rollover accident just west of Cameo stopped eastbound traffic along I-70.

The rolled vehicle may have ignited on the highway and one passenger was transported to the hospital.

All traffic was eventually diverted at exit 45.

Another rollover accident on US 50 occurred at about Exit 46. CSP has confirmed the accident to be fatal, involving one adult male victim.

At last report, Colorado State Patrol was working on clearing traffic, and the issue is still confined around the Cameo Exit.

Snow and ice were visible on the road as drivers waiting in more than three miles of stopped traffic during the morning commute.
