GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — An investigation is underway following a deputy-involved shooting in Grand Junction.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 500 block of 3 1/2 Road to contact a wanted man, 56-year-old Ray Cox at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday, October 20. Deputies contacted Cox, who allegedly tried to assault the deputies. Deputies responded by shooting Cox.
Emergency responders transported Cox to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement then transported him to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked him on three counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of criminal mischief.
The deputies will remain on paid administrative leave while the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigates.
