GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man in Clifton for attempted murder while responding to a burglary.
MCSO deputies responded to reports of a burglary in progress shortly after midnight on Friday morning in the 400 block of Topaz Drive in Clifton after a witness called 911 saying her ex-boyfriend broke into the home and attacked her sister, according to official reports.
Deputies arrived at the scene and quickly learned the burglary had escalated to an attempted homicide and immediately arrested the man in front of the residence without further incident. 63-year-old Danny Kelley is being held on a $500,000 cash bond at the Mesa County Detention Facility for attempted first-degree murder and other charges.
First responders took the 59-year-old woman to the hospital, where she is being treated for significant lacerations to the neck. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
