GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office Has completed an investigation into an officer-involved-shooting that happened in the Carl’s Jr. parking lot in Grand Junction.
In a letter to Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Lead Investigator Chris Kopp, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein decided not to file charges against Deputy Sandell, who shot Emilio Cordova on January 24, 2023 outside a Carl’s Jr. in Grand Junction. The DA is instead charging Cordova with the following:
- Attempted first-degree murder – extreme indifference
- Attempted first-degree assault – extreme indifference
- Aggravated motor vehicle theft
