GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A prisoner who escaped the Rifle Correctional Center earlier this week has been arrested and is back in custody, per official reports from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Rifle Correctional Center.

Rifle Police Officers responded to a tip that suggested the escaped prisoner was a business in Rifle and took him into custody without incident.

In the morning hours of Monday, April 10, Jewel W. Gist, escaped from the Rifle Correctional Center. Gist was a minimum security inmate since 2016 after being convicted of aggravated robbery. Officials sent out a press release alerting the public of the situation.

Rifle County Correctional Center officials informed Western Slope Now law enforcement is transporting Gist to a maximum security department of corrections facility.
