GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX) — Officials with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office inform Western Slope Now a man has been arrested and charged with several child-sexual exploitation charges.
36-year-old Micah Hopkins was arrested and charged with six counts of sexual exploitation of a child (distribution) and 16 counts of sexual exploitation of a child (extraordinary risk).
According to the arrest affidavit, on October 26, 2022, officials with the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children contacted an investigator with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office via email advising of a new case.
Upon reviewing the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) report, the investigator discovered the user’s account uploaded Suspected Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on September 3, 2022.
Forensic Analysts unearthed more than 300 images on a device owned by Hopkins after several search warrants were obtained and executed for multiple of Hopkin’s electronic devices.
Hopkins is currently being held in the Mesa County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
