LOMA, Colo. (KREX) — The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a juvenile for a shooting that happened in Loma on Saturday.

Yesterday Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Complex Crimes Unit investigators arrested a 14-year-old juvenile and transported him to the Division of Youth Services. The juvenile is being held on the following charges:

  • Manslaughter
  • Criminally negligent homicide
  • Assault in the second-degree
  • Possession of a handgun by a juvenile

The MCSO, Fruita Police Department, Lower Valley Fire, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials responded to a report stating a 14-year-old male had accidentally shot himself in Loma on May 20. An investigation followed and led investigators to believe the gunshot was not self-inflicted. Investigators then contacted the juveniles involved in the shooting and interviewed them.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident. Officials believe this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the community.
