GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A stolen car chase in Grand Junction ended with a man in jail Thursday afternoon.
Grand Junction Police officers responded to reports of an auto theft in progress at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 2100 block of East Main Street. The suspect, later identified as Garrett Digiallonardo, stole a work vehicle that was parked on the street and drove off before officers arrived.
Digiallonardo then reportedly drove into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed and struck a vehicle in the area of 32 Road and D 1/2 Road, before crashing and continuing to run on foot. Officers arrested Digiallonardo over a mile away in the area of 32 Rd and Kennedy Avenue and remanded the 36-year-old to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Auto theft
- Felony eluding
- Additional related charges
A shelter-in-place was active until officers took the suspect into custody, but the GJPD believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. This is an active police investigation with no further information at this time.
