GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Grand Junction homicide that occurred Saturday, March 4.
Law enforcement officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 800 block of 26 Road and reportedly found a man dead in the street. According to MCSO, the man had suffered a fatal gunshot wound before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Soon after a vehicle was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Sheriff deputies and GJPD Officers chased the vehicle for a short time before the driver crashed into a GJPD vehicle and fled on foot.
Law enforcement reportedly found the man soon after hiding in a storage area at a home on Blevins Road.
The 30-year-old suspect was transported to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. According to officials, only minor injuries were suffered from the crash. This is a current investigation so the suspect’s identity has not been released.
The Mesa County Coroner is responsible for releasing the name of the victim. Western Slope Now reached out to the coroner and is awaiting a response.
