GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Grand Junction Police have confirmed a suspect is now in custody following reports of an active shooter near Patterson and 12th. Officials with the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) inform Western Slope Now the situation happened near Patterson Road and Northern Way.

Apartments and some businesses nearby were ordered to shelter in place.

GJPD officials inform Western Slope the only shots fired were fired by the adult male who is now in custody. Several vehicles were reportedly struck by fire and the roadway will remain closed until the investigation is finished.

A nearby witness on scene who was grocery shopping at the time told Western Slope Now he heard what sounded like approximately 30 shots fired off and on over intervals. Western Slope Now has not confirmed that report. Unconfirmed reports also indicated an AR 15 may have been involved, but Western Slope Now has not independently confirmed that report. There have been no reported injuries at this time.

Nearby buildings ordered to shelter in place include St. Mary’s Life Center and Family Residency Clinic according to St. Mary’s spokesperson Megan Terlecky. Terlecky confirmed St. Mary’s Hospital was never in the danger zone, despite other media reports to the contrary.
