MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — The trial date for the operators of Sunset Mesa Funeral Home has been set for August 1 of this year. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided Sunset Mesa Funeral Home and indicted Shirley Cook and Megan Hess in 2020.
Court filings against Hess allege she agreed to cremate the deceased, but instead harvested and sold their body parts without consent from their families.
Federal agents charged both Hess and Cook with mail fraud and illegal transportation of hazardous materials.
The trial was delayed after a motion for continuance by the defense.
The jury trial is expected to last three weeks beginning on August 1. Jury selection is set to take place on July 25.
