SWAT respond to attempted robbery Friday morning at Stinker on North Avenue

UPDATE (10:40 a.m.): Grand Junction Police say the adult male suspect in the attempted robbery broke into a residence at the Pinyon Pines Apartments. The resident called police to alert them to an armed suspect laying on the floor, and was able to exit the building. Police say no one was injured during the robbery attempt or break in.

The suspect was transported to the hospital and will be transferred to the Mesa County Detention Center once medically cleared. He will be facing a number of felony charges.

(Original story) GRAND JUNCTION, Colo – An early morning gas station robbery attempt closed down parts of North Avenue and surrounding areas of 2nd and 3rd Streets while law enforcement attempted to apprehend the suspect.

A Grand Junction Police spokesperson says reports of the robbery and shots fired first came in at about 5:35 Friday morning. Witnesses on scene told police the suspect fled to the Pinyon Pines Apartments right behind the gas station, on Belford Ave. & 2nd St.

Grand Junction Police, Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputies and SWAT teams were present in the area while trying to make contact with the suspect. Shortly before 9:30 a.m. a flash bang was used to breach the apartment the suspect was in.
